The Editorial Department of Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies and the Institute of Regional Studies of Renmin University of China jointly held a paper workshop on “Reconstruction of regional order and Strategic Adjustment of Great Powers in the context of the Ukraine Crisis”

On the morning of October 18, 2023, the paper workshop on “Reconstruction of Regional Order and Strategic Adjustment of Great Powers in the Context of the Ukraine Crisis” co-sponsored by the Institute of Regional Studies of Renmin University of China, the School of International Relations of Renmin University of China, and the Editorial Department of Russian East European and Central Asian Studies was held in Conference Room 406, Mingde International Building, Renmin University of China. Zhai Dongsheng, Deputy Dean of the School of International Relations of Renmin University of China and head of the Regional and Country Research Institute, and Li Zhonghai, editorial director of the Institute of Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and executive editor of Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies, delivered speeches respectively. Zhang Haoqi, deputy editor of Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies, and Ji Xianbai, Associate professor of School of International Relations, Renmin University of China, hosted two sessions of the workshop forum.

Zhai Dongsheng introduced the basic situation of the integration, empowerment and service of the regional national Research Institute of Renmin University of China, as well as the demand for outstanding research talents of the School of International Relations and the publication of doctoral papers. Li Zhonghai expressed the significance of co-hosting this paper workshop from both practical and academic perspectives: to expand the source of journal articles, publish more high-quality articles by high-impact authors, and improve the influence of Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies; The impact of the Ukraine crisis has been far-reaching, giving more scholars interested in the issue an opportunity to express their academic views.

In the first session, the four speakers shared papers on Russia’s digital economy, the EU’s external energy governance, the US Arctic strategy, and the Soviet Union’s foreign debt crisis. In the second session, the five speakers respectively shared papers on the “Belt and Road”, the Lebensraum theory, the gray zone, the Middle East regional order, the Baltic countries’ policy toward Russia and other issues. Li Zhonghai, Zhai Dongsheng, Zhang Haoqi and Ji Xianbai comment on the above papers one by one.
